My Grandmother was eulogized with the words "cultured civility" used to describe her. And yes I would agree that she had a certain "cultured civility" about her. She was always well dressed, maintained a perfect home, did for others and emphasized education with all of her grandchildren. She remains, even after her death, my inspiration and the inspiration for this blog.
She was a military wife married to an officer of the USAF and with that came a certain etiquette and of course expectation. She relished pleasing people and feared what they may think of her. Appearances were far too important to her. To say she married up would have been a bit of an understatement. Her father-in-law was the probate judge in town while her dad was a mill worker. It's been said that her parents felt she thought she was better than them, but I argue she just wanted something better for herself and with that came a different expectation.
I, too, am seeking something better. I am embarking on a new journey as I switch career directions and follow my bliss a bit more earnestly. And so my new adventure begins......
